Why we built Kind Synthetics
When ChatGPT first appeared a few years ago, I couldn’t believe what it could do — and I couldn’t believe almost no one around me knew. So I became that person: asking nearly everyone I met if they’d tried it, then showing them. In under a minute it would write a song about them, rap it in a few different languages, and then rattle off genuinely useful ways they could put it to work in their own life. Most people walked away amazed and thanked me later. A few weren’t having it — to them, AI was something to be wary of.
Since then, AI has quietly woven itself into all of our lives, whether we notice it or not. And yet that uneasy feeling has stuck around for a lot of people — honestly, at times, including me.
I kept wrestling with two truths at once. AI isn’t going anywhere, and the people who learn to use it well have a real advantage. But we’ve also grown so dependent on it — even in the arts — that I couldn’t help wondering if it was quietly chipping away at what makes us human. I loved how useful it was and feared it was taking something from us, at the very same time.
That tension is the exact reason my friend and partner Sean and I built Kind Synthetics.
